1.
How does it work? |
| |
Ordering
is a simple easy to
follow process and below
are the steps involved.
If you do have a problem
with ordering please
contact via email at
enquiries@directeyewear.com.au or call
us on 02 - 9669 - 5072
and we would be happy
to assist you.
|
| |
 |
Step
One - Your prescription |
| |
|
Before
you order your glasses
you will need a copy
of your prescription.
You may already have
a copy from a previous
eye test, and providing
it is less than two
years old, you may
use that one to order
from us. If you have
had a recent test
but don't have a copy
of the prescription,
you can contact your
optician and request
they send you a copy.
Alternatively,
you will need to go
to your local optician
and have your eyes
tested. Eyesight testing
is generally bulk
billed by Medicare
and will not cost
you any money. Following
the eye test, your
optician is obliged
to give you a copy
of your prescription,
and you shouldn't
feel under pressure
to purchase glasses
from that same shop.
Also, you should check
that they have completed
the PD (the distance
between your eye centres)
section of the prescription
form, (a step often
skipped) to ensure
your new glasses are
made exactly to suit
you. |
| |
|
Step
Two - Select your frames |
| |
|
Select
from our extensive range
a frame model that best
suits you. The frames
which can reached from
the Glasses menu in
the top left corner
of this page |
| |
|
Step
Three - Input your details
|
| |
|
To
place your order, input
your prescription and
personal details via
our secure server which
utilises the latest
128 bit SSL (Secure
Sockets Layer) encryption
technology to protect
your privacy. |
| |
 |
Step
Four - Receive your
glasses! |
| |
|
We
will complete your order
and deliver your new
glasses to you, via
Australia Post, usually
within two weeks. |
| |
2.
Why are the prices so
low?
|
| |
Our
costs are significantly
lower than those of
the retail shops because:
|
| |
We do not need charge
you the same mark-up
|
| |
We keep our costs (such
as not having a shop)
low and can therefore
charge you less. |
| |
The
Product |
| |
 |
3.
Do you sell prescription
sunglasses? |
| |
|
Yes.
We have a broad range
of sunglass options.
Polarised , light sensitive
(photo chromatic or
transition) and sunglass
tints. If you order
a sunglass tint we strongly
recommend a Ultra Violet
ray blocker, it only
costs an extra $25.
|
| |
 |
4. Are
your lenses made of
glass or plastic? |
| |
|
Our
lenses are all made
of plastic. We do not
provide glass lenses.
Less than 1% of eyeglasses
lenses are made of glass
these days as glass
no longer meets the
Australian safety requirements.
Our CR 39 plastic lenses
have the benefit of
being light weight,
safer, since they do
not shatter on impact
and they are much more
modern and stylish than
the older style glass
lenses. |
| |
 |
5.
Can I get a pair of
frames on trial? |
| |
|
No,
we do not do trial frames.
We have put much effort
into the quality of
the pictures of our
product on this website.
We also allow you to
see most of our glasses
on either modeled by
both male and female
models, as well as allowing
you to upload your own
picture to use our eFitting
functionality. |
| |
 |
6.
Is the product quality
checked before I receive
it? |
| |
|
All
of our glasses are quality
checked by our qualified
laboratory technicians
before leaving the laboratory.
They are also checked
with a Focimeter (Lensmeter)
by our Optical Dispensers
before they are sent
on to you. |
| |
 |
7. Do
you do Multi-focal or
Progressive Lenses?
|
| |
|
Yes,
we do! We sell both
bi-focal and the popular
progressive lenses.
Frames suitable for
these need to be at
least 26mm deep to accommodate
the two prescriptions.
So, check out our range
of suitable frames in
Bi-Focal
/ Progressive
section of the glasses
menu. |
| |
 |
8. What
lens coatings do you
have? |
| |
|
All
our glasses come with
a free anti-scratch
coating. Options include
an anti-reflective coating,
UV protection and sunglasses
tints. |
 |
9.Can
I order just the frames? |
| |
Yes,
you can order just the
frames. You will receive
the frames (no lenses)
together with a case
and cleaning cloth.
Please refer to the
Frame only
section under the Glasses
menu bar. |

My
Prescription |
| |
 |
10.
I can't read my prescription
. |
| |
|
If
you cannot read your
prescription you should
verify it with your
optician. If you wish
our customer services
team to look at it you
can fax it to us at
02 - 8572 - 6048 , however
if we cannot read or
understand it we will
contact your optometrist
for clarification. |
| |
 |
11.
There is no Sphere value
on my prescription. |
| |
|
If
you have an astigmatism
(this just means your
eye is not a perfect
sphere and is very common)
but otherwise normal
vision, there may be
no value under the sphere
column. Similarly you
may only require spectacles
for reading in cases
like this there may
also be no sphere value.
|
| |
 |
12.
There is no Cyl Value
on my prescription. |
| |
|
The
Cyl and Axis are to
correct astigmatism
so if you don't have
astigmatism you may
not have a Cyl or Axis
value on your prescription. |
| |
 |
13.
I have no Axis value
on my prescription |
| |
|
This
may be the case if you
have no Cyl values on
your prescription. However,
if you have a Cyl value
on either eye, you will
always have an axis
value. If you do not
have this then please
call your optician to
verify your prescription
or fax your prescription
to us on 02 - 8572 -
6048 . |
| |
 |
14.
There is no PD value
on my prescription |
| |
|
This
is very common, therefore
you have a number of
options: |
| |
|
|
Go
to your optician
and ask him /
her to measure
your PD value
for your prescription.
|
|
|
Accept
the standard average
for both male
(63) and female
(60) that we have
indicated on our
order form. These
have been agreed
with our dispensing
opticians as being
average numbers
to choose, however
you will receive
more effective
glasses if you
measure this accurately
for your self. |
|
| |
 |
15.
What is my Pupilliary
Distance? |
| |
|
Your
Pupilliary Distance
is the distance in Millimeters
from the centre of the
pupil in your left eye
to the centre of your
pupil in your right
eye. |
| |
 |
16.
Why do you need a 'Pupilliary
Distance' measurement? |
| |
|
We
need this measurement
in order manufacture
the lenses so that the
centre of each lens
sits exactly over the
centre of your pupil.
This allows for maximum
effectiveness when wearing
your glasses |
| |
 |
17.
Can you help me with
the prescription details? |
| |
|
The
prescription page of
our website contains
very clear information
on how to enter prescription
information. Simply
click on the 'quick
help' whenever you need
to. However if you do
need help please call
our customer services
team on 02

 |
18.
How do I get hold of
my prescription? |
| |
|
You
can get your prescription
from you optometrist
If you have had an eye
test within the last
2 years you need to
go to the optometrist
who carried out the
test. Ask them for a
copy of your prescription.
Optometrists are legally
obliged to provide you
with this. If you are
going along for an eye
test always ask to be
provided with the prescription
before you leave. Do
not feel pressured to
buy your glasses from
the shop employing the
optometrist who conducted
your eye test. Alternatively
phone your optometrist
and request a copy of
it to be sent to you.
It will normally be
with you next day. |
| |
 |
19.

incorrectly? |
| |
|

you enter you details
incorrectly then you
need to call us immediately
in order that we can

you do this since lenses
in the manufacturing
process cannot be refunded
or changed. |
| |
 |
20.
Can I use my contact
lens prescription? |
| |
|

Fitting
and Measurements
|
| |
 |
21.
How do I know my frame
measurements? |
| |
|
You
may already be a glasses
wearer. If you have
a pair of glasses that
fit you well, you can
buy another pair the
same size by reading
the size on your existing
glasses. It is usually
shown on the inside
of the arm or sometimes
on the nose bridge.
If so, the frame measurements
will usually be a 3
digit number separated
by a □and - sign (ie.
50
□18 - 140). All
measurements are in
millimeters. If you
do not have a pair of
glasses to go by, then
you can easily take
your own rough measurements.
Remember, glasses frames
can easily be adjusted
by your local optician
usually free. |
| |
 |
22.
What do the frame measurements
mean? |
| |
|
There
are three numbers
50 □18 - 140 ,
the first number is
the diameter of the
lens from the bottom
left corner to the top
right hand corner, the
second is the width
of the bridge across
the nose and the third
is the length of the
arm, all in millimeters.
This tells you that
the lens diameter is
50mm, the nose bridge
gap is 18mm and that
the arm length is 140mm. |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
 |
| |
|
|
|
 |
23. What
shape of frame is most
suited to me? |
| |
|
The shape
of your face is the
most important factor
when choosing your frames.
There are no hard and
fast rules but the following
guide should provide
a good start point.
Oval
Faces:
The easiest
to match - most frames
will suit, for an oval
face the size is the
most important factor.
Round
Faces:
Rectangular frames are
likely to be most suitable.
Square
Faces:
Oval shaped or round
frames are your best
choice. Rectangular
Faces:
Oval and round styles
again but medium or
larger sized model will
be best. Triangular
Faces:
Rectangular frames are
your recommended option. |
| |
 |
24.
How do I get my glasses

| |
|

you need your glasses
adjusting slightly you
can pop down to your
local opticians who
may provide this service
for free or a small
fee. |
| |
Payment
|
| |
 |
25.
Are my payment details
kept secure? |
| |
|

(Secure Sockets Layer)
encryption technology
to protect your privacy.
Your payment card details
are deleted once they
